Last night I witnessed something rare and wonderful. My wife and I watched as a very shy future husband transform into a fabulous storyteller. What could make such a transformation? In this particular instance, it was their story. The story of their love.
Singing in the church choir, playing their instruments, riding bikes, and fishing are just some of the many activities that this couple enjoy doing together. From their very humerous "almost" mishap on their first date to driving over a hunderd miles for a dinner date, this couple has had some really good times. This couple reminded me, once again, that a love story is not the cookie cutter romance that modern movies make it out to be. There is no formula or equation or even recipie that you can follow in order to create the perfect love story. The best love stories that we have heard (and we have heard a few) are the crazy adventures and mishaps of two people who are in love. People doing what they love to do together. Times when things don't go exactly as planned. Proposals gone wrong. These are the most endearing love stories of all.
In a world where chivalrous love is all but dead, there is still at least one man who still believes. In telling their story, not even the shroud of his shy nature could mask the love that he felt as he told us story after story of their life together so far (his future wife adding in details and stories of her own as well). Sitting in the back corner booth of Chick-fil-a we witnessed true love. After leaving last night, my wife commented, "this is why I love my job." I agree. One of the greatest honors that we have is experiencing the love of another and to be a part of their spontaneous, crazy, and sweet love stories.
